During a recent session working with someone developing their intuition and mediumship, I became acutely aware that I wasn’t doing anything. It was a bit uncomfortable but at the same time I knew it was right and good to not do.

In this turbo-charged capitalistic e-world where branding yourself is the presumptive natural order and the pressure to produce content to get ever more clicks and views is a constant hum, where does do-nothing fit?

Like a child out of step with her peers, my work won’t fit into a paradigm, system or theory that can be marketed and sold. As with psychology, what I offer is who I am.

In mediumship, teachers often advise, “Get out of the way.” It’s hard to say how to do that (because there isn’t really a how to) but once you have the experience, you appreciate that it’s the only way to channel spirit communication. Its impact isn’t confined to mediumship, as even brief moments of not needing to manage everything is enough space for transformation.

So, this do-nothingness is actually more like not needing to do anything. Being is enough. Offering without seeking or fixing. Trusting the spaciousness of heart and mind. Welcoming a wisdom and joy the rational cannot know.

For wherever need arises—feeling compelled or propelled into a response—there resides Archetype. In my experience, Archetypes offer up a necessary message and will continue to blindly act through us until we actually hear its imperative. Personally and collectively, we’re sometimes called to face a world of grotesque and shadowy figures… and dance.

Like The World in Tarot, we can hear the archaic, musical movements all around us without getting tripped up by them. In all the world, we’re free to dance!

Until next time…
